Stop Making Fun of How People Make A Living
Long before social media, YouTube, and the internet- people made fun of the way others made a living. Making fun of a gardener, a construction worker, heck most kind of laborers. The little lady going door to door selling cookies, tacos, pupusas, tamales, cakes, pies, and other awesome food. Back then it was just odd to see someone make a living outside of a 9-5. Freelancer and entrepreneur meant you couldn’t get a job so you did things to make ends meet on an as-needed basis. I think the some of the ridicule came from a place of not understanding circumstances or choices, some came from just being a jerk.
Now everyone wants to make a living being an entrepreneur and owning their own business or be a freelancer and work on their own time. The internet and social media made that easier and more acceptable. Entrepreneurs and freelancers are “normal” now. What isn’t considered “normal?” Influencers. People who make money off social media followings, YouTubers, Twitch streamers, Instagram, Snapchat, and music.ly. People use these platforms to make money now doing what they love and they get ragged on for it.
The sad part is most people making fun of influencers, used to get ragged in for being a freelancer or a entrepreneur because if you remember they used to be thought of as people who couldn’t get a job even though that really wasn’t true. It was a choice they made.
So how about we stop making fun of people on how they make a living? It’s ok if you don’t understand what or how they do it. If you give them crap because you’re jealous or mad that someone makes money playing video games all day why don’t you go play some video games? Mad someone makes money just by posting selfies on Instagram? Go post selfies! No one is stopping you. If you have the talent you will thrive and yes playing games and being good looking are talents. You think Anyone can be Kevin Durant, Tom Brady, Derek Jeter? Same goes for gamers, instagrammers, snapchatters and other influencers.
Bottom line, stop being a jerk and let people enjoy what they do, especially if you also make money off the internet. There is no point in bringing people down for finding creative ways to make money. Support each other, collaborate, build this community of internetters.
Final notes: Two rants in a row. I’m on fire lol. Subscribe to my newsletter if you want to get notified when I post a new blog. I wait a few days before I promote it on my social channels. My newsletter gets it first. Or don’t! That’s cool too! ?
Also on the note of my newsletter/blog, due to work, freelance work, and working out I’m switching to a biweekly posting. I’m also considering switching my day. Dunno Yet!
I don’t do comments anymore.
Used to leave it open for SEO purposes but I want a real one to one conversation. If you want to talk about this please hit me up on twitter. @ramoncreates.
